“– How did Fripulya come into being?
– I had a dream: some kind of crystals emitting a фантастичне radiation. And this crystal seemed to emerge from my soul, and in this way I saw that planet Earth—its explosion—is a fertilization of everything on the level of light. Then, reflecting on this, I came to the conclusion that entire planets, whole worlds, can grow from the smallest particles of light. I believe there have been countless explosions—everything has been preserved and continues to appear; everything exists eternally, infinitely.
So—Fripulya!!!”
Fedir Tetyanych’s contemporaries often asked him where he had come from and when he would fly back into space. To this, the artist would reply that our planet is already in space, so there is no need for him to go anywhere. For Tetyanych, the inner sense of belonging to the cosmos, to a powerful infinity, and the awareness of an inseparable connection with it, dissolve all the limitations a person typically sets for themselves. Moreover, for the artist, the cosmos (the universe, infinity) is not an empty, lifeless space as it is often portrayed in popular culture. Instead, it is a living organism—optimistic, constructive, filled with meaning and humor.
In one of his manifestos, he describes operating on cosmic, infinite scales, creating what he calls “excursion-exhibition routes.” By placing his works in different countries, Tetyanych transforms the planet into a work of art; then, by operating with the planet, he turns the solar system into his instrument. Through the solar system, he engages with the galaxy, and ultimately, through the galaxy—with the entire universe.
The exhibition features paintings, graphic works, and collages by Fedir Tetyanych, created mainly in the 1970s–1980s. The exhibition is held as part of the project ProZori (National Center “Ukrainian House”).
